Yahoo! Maps wins 2007 c|net Webware 100 award
As proclaimed yesterday by c|net, “The Webware 100 awards recognize the best Web 2.0 apps.” So, it’s my pleasure to share with you that Yahoo! Maps has been named a winner in the Reference category for 2007.
We’ve made a number of improvements in the last few months, including an improved mapping platform, better design, mobile offerings, and new international streets and satellite imagery. While we’re always excited about the direction our product is headed in, we still count on your feedback to make the product more useful and easier to use. We will continue to improve the technology, interface, and features that matter to you most, particularly focusing on being the most accurate mapping service available.
More details on our award win and the other 99 top Web 2.0 apps can be found here.
We hope you’ll continue to help us make Yahoo! Maps the best mapping system out there. If you haven’t yet used the Yahoo! Maps and Local suggestion board, check it out.
Cheers!

I’m far from a Google lover; in fact, they are starting to really annoy me with their “Do no evil” mantra when it is clear that they are attempting to rule the world while creating some sort of Geek utopia at their various outposts around the globe.
But with their new draggable route feature in Google maps, they are clearly beating your butts. Their page loads up faster (near instantaneous), is more streamlined but has extra features available if desired, and I’m trying to use Yahoo! maps now and its telling me that the server is unavailable.
Your silly award from CNET will be little consolation when users are migrating away from your site to drag new routes around the city (its addictive). Right now, Google is Tiger Woods, and Yahoo! is Phil Mickelson. Yahoo! is really talented - #2 on the planet even, but unfocused, dopey and has a stupid grin on its face while getting pummeled in every event that Google decides to enter.
Get on the friggin’ ball Yahoo!

The new changes to the dialup version of the map SUCK!!

The new changes to the dialup version of the map SUCK!! I was just reading through some of the other user comments and seems like they are right on par. I used to love the fact that the address field was separate from the city, state and zip field. It made it much easier to use when doing multiple lookups. Now it looks like Yahoo Maps, just tried to become google maps. Which by the way, makes it crappy now.. I am on a T1 line and hate the speed and accuracy of the new maps.

Please bring back the separate field feature or leave a link to the old dialup version of the map. I used to use it over 500 times a day, now i’m forced to use Goggle, at least their map is cleaner and does not look like a toy. Both now suck, but Yahoo Maps really sucks!!

You have to be kidding - Yahoo maps SUCK. I can no longer find businesses near addresses like I used to - half the restaurants & hotels just vanished off the map. If I hadn’t checked Google, I’d have stayed 4 miles from a mtg I went to in northern California, a search of “Businesses Nearby” on Yahoo didn’t show the Hyatt, Sheraton & Hilton RIGHT DOWN THE STREET!! Today I tried mapping my next trip where I have conferences at 2 different hotels. I used Broadband maps hoping I could mark on the map the 2 locations. Wrong!! I marked them on the map, but when I printed the page, it had every hotel in range, it was impossible for me to tell my 2 spots. What a useless piece of crap Yahoo has become. Between the crummy maps and the constant delays in email caused by riduculous, useless upgrades, I’m over to Google for good. I’ve had Yahoo email for 10 years - no more!
