Yahoo! Maps releases from Beta
Yahoo! Maps is coming out of Beta today. This means that if you have a broadband internet connection, and if you have Flash 7 (or greater), the Broadband Maps (new) will be the default, and otherwise you’ll get the Dial-Up Maps (original). You can always switch between the two by using a link at the top of the page.
Since we released the beta version, we’ve spent our time optimizing the product and responding to user feedback to make it ready for mainstream use. We added the functionality and features our users want most, and the response we’ve received to-date has been very positive. The new Yahoo! Maps gives our users a more expedient method of finding locations and getting driving directions, and is an even more powerful tool within Yahoo! Local.
In addition to releasing the new Yahoo! Maps, we’re also rolling out street-level maps for Europe and many cities of new satellite imagery. These are available almost anywhere Yahoo! Maps can be found, whether on Flickr in their photo mapping feature, Yahoo! Travel’s Trip Planner product, and of course to our external developer community using Yahoo! Maps APIs. Getting more maps and imagery outside the US is a feature enhancement that has been in high demand.
Just a quick re-cap of what’s in the new Yahoo! Maps.
- The award winning, most interactive, easy to use interface for the new generation of mapping.
- Multi-point routing, (from A to B to C), which is a great way to plan your day, do your errands, visit garage sales or hunt for a house.
- A new mini-map which gives you an overview of what you’re looking at.
- Satellite and Aerial imagery, wall to wall in the USA, and for over 100 cities internationally.
- Full integration with Yahoo! Local, including search and SmartView.
- Saved locations and auto-complete against your saved locations, recent locations and Yahoo! Address Book.
- The ability to return to the old-style Yahoo! Maps for when you’re on a Dial-Up connection.
- Quick access to maps from within Yahoo! Mail using Yahoo! Shortcuts.
We certainly hope you enjoy using the new Yahoo! Maps, and the Maps team will continue to work to make it faster, more enjoyable, and more useful. Please Take a Tour of our new features, or jump right in!
Thank you!

Hello,
I like your Flash API and would like to use it for our realestate application however, I live in Perth Western Australia and your map coverage in our state is pretty slim. How can we get Yahoo to load our maps?

Paul Cahill

OLD YAHOO MAPS MUCH MUCH MUCH better than what is coming up now. I am unable to get a specific or definitive location with street names and lcoationds on the new map.
For my purposes, this new map program is totally useless.
Please advise where I can get either the old map program or get another one similiar in function.
thanks dh

I see I cant use yahoo at all any more there new email cant be used and this map will no longer allow me to use dial up maps at all evan when I click the Dial-Up Map (Original) it just redirects me to the brodband that cant find any address I type in the Dial-Up Map (Original) worked every time

The new maps may be the greatest for those who need this, but what about us that really prefer the old easy to enter and save addresses style. Even the old dial-up has changed. I can’t even view saved addresses near the top of my list because of the paid banner ads. They sit right on top. Might be a good time to look ino MapQuest or Map Point. Sorry guys, you’re only listning to one side of users needs.

The new Yahoo maps is terrible. I can’t even find how to save a location. The drop down list of my old locations falls below the window so I can’t even see 65% of the locations. Their are fewer shortcuts to features and the help section is inadequate in explaining how the new application works. The new version is a disaster as far as I am concerned.

You all are correct. The new Yahoo maps stinks. I used to love the old version. It was simle to use and easy to unerstand. The new version adds nothing I need and makes using it much more complicated. I can’t even access the old Yahoo maps anymore.
If this is web 2.0, I am not excited.

Everyone’s right; this new system does stink stink stink. Totally UNintuitive, doesn’t function as “advertised” and the “go to original dial up” link seems like something a bored programmer put on the page in order to enrage people, as the f***ing link doesn’t work. I’ve always told everyone that Yahoo has the best map and search engine, but I gotta recind my rec. Hoo wah, does this SUCK.

The new map system stinks totally. Are there any other websites out there (other than Yahoo) that offer a reliable, working dial-up map and direction finding service?

The new map totally sucks! I can’t even get it to work correctly half the time. the best way seems to be saving an addressing in my locations elsewhere, and pray it shows up in my drop down box. So freaking annoying … I’m moving to google.

Yahoo maps now crashes my Mozilla sessions no matter what I do. That’s it for me, kiddies. Off to Google. Is this another dying gasp for a multibillion dollar corporation? Too bad their management is SOOOO incompetent.
